Sevenoaks Town 3-1 Herne Bay
Sevenoaks Town 3-1 Herne Bay

Sevenoaks Town are in a relegation fight and Saturday’s victory over Herne Bay would help them.

It had been all change at the club with Harry Hudson coming in and what a difference he has made already with a 2 game unbeaten run and the smiles seem to be around the club and this was his first victory and at home.

The game started with promotion hopefuls Herne Bay having the first half chances when in the 3rd minute Kieron Campbell picked up the ball on halfway ran forward and tried his luck from 25 yards but his shot went wide, then seven minutes later he was in the area and from 10 yards his shot was saved by Tyler McCarthy.

Three minutes later and Sevenoaks took the lead with their first chance; Ryan Palmer on the right drove into the area beating Jack Parter and from ten yards smashed the ball into the net.

Sevenoaks were now enjoying a lot of possession and looked the better side as they passed the ball around causing Herne Bay problems.

In the 17th minute Palmer found himself in the area & from 15 yards saw his shot get deflected for a corner. In the 31st minute against the run of play Herne Bay nearly equalised when a cross into the area found Rory Smith and his header from six yards was saved at the second attempt by McCarthy.

Half time arrived and Sevenoaks deserved their lead with them looking like the team in the top ten not fighting relegation.

The second half started with Herne Bay upping the pace & in the 49th minute Campbell on the left cut inside and saw his swerving shot go just past the post and four minutes later Bode Anidugbe running forward tried his luck from 30 yards but it went wide, but in the 57th minute they equalised when a cross to the back post as headed in by Smith from two yards.

The thought now was Herne Bay would go on and take the three points and in the 60th minute a corner into the Sevenoaks area saw Zak Ansah’s acrobatic overhead kick go just wide and four minutes later Campbell racing down the left wing crossed to Ansah whose first time shot from 6 yards was saved by McCarthy.

Bay nearly took the lead when Anidugbe’s corner came back off the cross bar. Time was running out and then maybe against the run of play in the 82nd minute Sevenoaks retook the lead when a long ball forward saw Yahaya Bamba chase it down out pacing all the defenders and going into the area and shooting past Billy Johnson.

Three minutes later the game was done when the ball found itself in the area where Freddie Parker was and his volley beat Johnson from 8 yards.

The final whistle went and Sevenoaks deserved the three points.
