Sevenoaks were denied victory in a contentious manner when Hastings United converted a penalty in the seventh minute of added on time.
Sevenoaks started the better of the two teams and in nearly took the lead inside the first quarter when Kyle De Silva saw his low cross nearly bundled in by Frankie Sawyer from two yards out.
This obviously woke Hastings up and they took control of the game with their slick passing. In the 18th minute Daniel Ajakaiye latched onto a quick free kick and cut inside before letting fly from 20 yards but shot was saved by Patrick Lee’s legs.
Another half chance came in the 28th minute when Jerald Abosgye saw his cross into the area headed over the bar by Ben Pope.
Then against the run of play Sevenoaks scored, Sawyer set up Alec Fiddes who took one touch and shot past Louis Rogers from 20 yards.
The second half saw Sevenoaks again come out the quicker and in the 48th minute Joseph Taylor’s free kick into the area saw Thomas Ripley’s header go just past the post.
Five minutes later Fiddes on the edge of the area nearly scored another screamer from 20 yards but this time it beat Rogers but not the cross bar.
Hastings worked their first half chance of the half when Pope passed to Jack Dixon who saw his shot from distance go over the bar.
Sevenoaks, however, doubled their lead with 13 minutes to go when Tyrell Richardson-Brown cut across the area and saw his cracking shot beat Rogers all ends up.
Hastings now had a mountain to climb and they responded by bringing on Kenny Pogue hoping he would unsettle the Sevenoaks defence.
In the 83rd minute it worked as Hastings got a goal back, a free kick to the far post was headed back into the six yard box by Gary Elphick and in the ensuing scramble Pogue reacted the quickest to shoot home.
Three minutes later Hastings thought they had equalised when a corner was headed goalwards only for Dan Parkinson to head off the line.
Hastings were now throwing everything in search of an equaliser and they got the rewards for their efforts with a last ditch leveller.
In the seventh minute of added on time a cleared ball hit Richardson-Brown on the hand and a penalty was awarded. It seemed a bit harsh but Pope did not care and hit it powerfully straight down the middle. The full time whistle went 30 seconds later.
