Sevenoaks Town 0-2 Leatherhead

Sevenoaks bowed out of the FA Cup after falling to defeat at home to Leatherhead who were the better side on the day.

This was the first time these sides have met, and Sevenoaks will be disappointed that they failed to put up much of a fight.

The game started slowly with both sides easing into the game then in the 10th minute Leatherhead nearly took the lead when Andre Date latched onto a through ball, went round Jordan Perrin but from an acute angle Oliver Gray got back and cleared off the line.

Eight minutes later and Leatherhead took the lead when Matthew Everett got to the by-line, his low cross was stabbed home by Date.

Two minutes later they had doubled their lead when Marco Haigh who had been on for nine minutes picked up a loose ball, raced into the area before shooting past Perrin from 12 yards.

Leatherhead were now in control and in the 23rd minute it was nearly three as a long ball down the right wing saw Date get to it, he advanced into the area before shooting but Perrin got a touch on it to concede a corner.

In the last two minutes of the half Leatherhead had chances to increase their lead when in the 43rd minute Tom Kavanagh saw his 20-yard free kick curl over the bar, then a minute later Haigh got to the by-line and passed into the path of Anuar Ceesey but from 12 yards he shot over the bar.

The second half started slowly but Leatherhead were still in control with Sevenoaks relying on counter attacks, in one of those rare attacks Anthony Adesite was put through into the area, but his shot saved by Sonny Wheeler for a corner.

In the 61st minute Leatherhead wasted a chance to treble their lead when a long ball for Date in the area, he got to the by-line and his fizzed cross to the back post was headed wide by Haigh when it seemed easier to score.

Six minutes later Jefferson Albangbee on the right saw his low deflected by a defender onto the post, the ball came back to Adesite and his effort hit the other post ( you could tell it wasn’t going to be Sevenoaks day ). The last minutes of the game saw Leatherhead manage the game and secure their place in the next round of the FA Cup.
