Graham Rumsey turned a few heads at the weekend as he finished second in his debut in the MSA Rallycross Championship.
The construction manager was racing in the highly competitive British Rallycross class of Hot Hatch. Rumsey who is a relatively unknown driver in Rallycross couldn’t have hoped for a better maiden event storming to an impressive performance. If the other drivers in the Hot Hatch class didn’t know who he was before the first round they certainly do now.
Racing in an amalgamated category that consisted of Super National, Super 1600, BMW mini’s and Hot Hatches. Rumsey had to get down to business from the get go. After steady improvement during the heats Rumsey lined up for his semi-final scoring a very respectable 5th place up against more powerful cars and the eventual top three finishers for the event.
Rumsey finished second overall in the Hot Hatch class. Something he plans to improve on and go one better at round 2 at the end of the month when he will be racing at his home circuit of Lydden Hill.
The second round of the championship moves south to Lydden Hill in Kent over the Easter weekend Sunday 27thand Monday 28th March.
Speaking after the weekend, the Tunbridge Wells resident, said: “2nd place in the Hot Hatch class for my first ever meeting in the BRX championship was a good result, but first was achievable and I am confident going into the next round at Lydden.”
