Scunthorpe United vs Gillingham – Preview

The Gills are back in action this weekend, taking their unbeaten record on the road as they head to Scunthorpe, who like the Gills are unbeaten in their league campaign so far this campaign.

Following the midweek comeback, where the Gills drew at home with Swindon Town, it was confirmed by manager Justin Edinburgh that Joe Quigley had sustained an ACL injury and would miss the rest of the season, adding to the seemingly ever growing injury list at the Priestfield.

The home fans did get their first glimpse of Jamie O’Hara as a second half substitute on Tuesday evening, and he could be in line to make his first start for the club, after impressing the manager and fans alike.

It could be that the Gills see Bradley Dack back in the side, and Max Ehmer could be back having suffered with concussion in the win over Southend United, which will mean that Edinburgh, will have some tough choices to make with his team selection.

Scott Wagstaff (calf), Bradley Garmston and Aaron Morris (both knee) are also expected to miss out, with Lee Martin (ankle) a long-term absentee.

Scunthorpe have also won two and drawn one so far this season, and will be looking to continue that run, having beaten AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday evening 2-1, with Tom Hopper scoring one and winning the penalty, which Morris dispatched for the winning strike.

Van Veen is likely to be one of the Irons danger men this weekend, and will be looking to add to his four goal tally already. Manager Gary Alexander has been urging his side not to get carried away with their early season form, and urging them to keep their feet on the ground ahead of this weekend’s fixture.

Scunthorpe are keen to add to their squad ahead of the transfer window closing, whether they are able to add to the squad before the Gills arrive at Glanford Park on Saturday afternoon.
