Gillingham continued their resurgence under Steve Lovell with a fine victory over Scunthorpe at Glanford Park.
Lee Martin put the visitors ahead before Josh Morris levelled seven minutes after the restart, but goals from Josh Parker and Tom Eaves secured Gillingham’s fifth win in seven games under their new boss.
Gillingham started positively and almost took the lead when Eaves headed Bradley Garmston’s cross just over the top of the crossbar in the early exchanges.
The visitors found themselves in front after 25 minutes when Martin smashed home from just inside the box after being set up by a neat pass from debutant Callum Reilly.
Scunthorpe responded but Neal Bishop could not keep his header down after good work from Morris before Kevin van Veen also saw a close-range effort hacked off the line by Jake Hessenthaler.
The hosts equalised after the break when Morris darted down the left before drilling his ninth goal of the season past Tomas Holy.
Holy denied Morris once more with a wonderful save when he tipped the forward’s curling strike onto the post.
Gills regained the lead after 68 minutes when Josh Parker was free to head home Luke O’Neill right-wing cross.
Eaves ensured Lovell’s side took maximum points when he latched on to Garmston’s through-ball to hammer home his 11th goal of the campaign with 17 minutes remaining.
The win sees The Gills climb to 11th place in the League One table, just nine points off the play-off places. Looking up rather than looking down, Steve Lovell’s side will now go into next Saturday’s home clash with Fleetwood full of confidence.
