SCEFL weekend round up

Leaders Glebe dropped points and saw their lead at the top of SCEFL cut to two points as their closest pursuers all won as the race for the title continues apace…

The leaders will consider it two points dropped as lowly Rusthall held the title chaser to a goal-less draw – and that point saw Rusthall close on the sides around them at the table’s wrong end as they were the only one of the bottom four not to lose.

Faversham Town hit Holmesdale for six as Dale lost 6-1 for the second successive weekend and all that after winning 4-0 at Hollands & Blair in midweek! The league’s top scorer Stefan Payne helped himself to two and there was also a brace for Sam Hasler with Billy Bennett and Warren Mfula completing the rout as Theo McKenzie pulled one back.

The come back of the day saw Corinthian consolidating fourth with a win over Lydd Town. Trailing to Charlie Dickens’ 70th minute goal, the home side scored three in the final five minutes to take the points through Conor Driscoll, an Oscar Housego penalty, and Jack Billings. Corinthian are the only top side playing midweek and if they beat Fisher on Tuesday, they will go into third above Deal Town.

Deal themselves warmed up for their Isuzu FA Vase tie at Bridgwater United next weekend with a 3-0 win over Tunbridge Wells thanks to two from Billy Munday and a Macauley Murray penalty. Steve King and his side will now prepare for their trip to Somerset and look out for our preview of the tie with the Deal boss later in the week.

Fifth played sixth and it finished nil-nil – a result that really does not help either Bearsted or Whitstable Town, who had drawn level with the Bears after a midweek win at Snodland Town.

Erith Town just about stay in touch for the Play Offs as they beat Welling Town 4-2 courtesy of two James Dyer penalties and other goals from Ollie Milton and Jake Lovell – Jordan Samuel and Andrew Mott replied for Welling who are now bottom.

Snodland stay next as their mixed form since the turn of the year continues – now won three and lost three with the latest win a comfortable 4-0 road win over Stansfeld – a couple from Francis Babalola, Jordan Wells, and a late Ben Davisson penalty.

VCD Athletic were 3-1 winner over Hollands & Blair in Luke Jessop’s first game in charge after being named coach until the end of the season, and the game between Lordswood and Punjab United was abandoned.

In Division One, Rochester United go second, cutting AFC Whyteleafe’s lead at the top to seven points after winning 2-1 at Staplehurst who slip from third to fourth whilst Lewisham drop to third after being held 0-0 at home by Greenways.

Larkfield remain in the final Play Off place after a 4-0 home win over Faversham Strike Force and are now six points ahead of Elmstead who do have a game in hand.
