It was an afternoon of away wins in the SCEFL Premier Division at the weekend as Corinthian moved into third by beating Whitstable Town in the game of the day.
The top two won again to keep it tight at the summit – Glebe winning 3-1 at Punjab United and Faversham, in Tommy Warrilow’s first game in charge came from behind to win at Rusthall thanks to second half strikes from Warren Mfula and Stefan Payne, leaves Glebe top by a point with both sides having played twenty-four games.
Corinthian went third after beating Whitstable for their eighth win in a row, although it was the Oystermen who struck first early on through Josh Williams, but two goals in a minute just before the break swung the game Corinthian’s way from Oscar Housego and Harry Lashley and Sam Bewick’s goal just after the break sealed the home side’s 3-1 win.
Bearsted are up to fourth after a thumping 5-2 win over Welling Town, whilst Snodland Town also hit five on the road – winning 5-2 at Fisher – to stay in contention for the Play Off places.
Lydd Town, with games in hand, are up to tenth after winning 3-1 at Stansfeld who are still bottom of the table but just two points separates the bottom five clubs one of whom are Kennington who recent winning run ended when they were beaten 3-1 at Homelands by Lordswood.
Away from the League, the plaudits must do to Steve King’s Deal Town who won through to the last sixteen of the Isuzu FA Vase when a goal in each half from Ben Chapman and Rory Smith sent the 2000 winners West in the next round to face Bridgewater Town.
Sadly, this was the round where we lost both Erith Town and Holmesdale – Erith lost on penalties at Hilltop after Harry Taylor’s goal drew Town level. Holmesdale were beaten 1-3 at home by Highworth Town with Sam Bayworth netting the consolation.
Croydon became the first side through to the Semi Finals of the Kent Senior Trophy as second half goals from Uli Fischer and Athan Smith-Joseph saw them beat Hollands & Blair at a bitterly cold Star Meadow. The remaining three-Quarter Finals are this weekend.
