Glebe’s lead over Faversham Town at the top of the SCEFL Premier remains at four points after a weekend that saw both sides win on Saturday and then be held in midweek.
The leaders beat Snodland Town thanks to a brace from Jamie Phillpott whilst Faversham Town were 4-1 winners at Fisher – two from Sam Hasler and one each from Stefan Payne (his 23rd of the season) and Matt Newman.
Elsewhere on Saturday, third placed Deal Town sent Welling Town to the bottom of the table with goals from Billy Munday and Macauley Murray whilst fourth placed Corinthian were held to a goalless draw at managerless Hollands & Blair which meant that Bearsted’s 6-1 win at Holmesdale (their fifth win in a row) took them level on points with Corinthian – an Ollie Freeman hat-trick and along with goals from Dan Melvin, Nathan Palmer and Eniola Hussan.
Whitstable Town missed the chance of closing the gap as they were held to a draw by Punjab United who led through Ganny Piorkowski’s goal. Manny Oloyede levelled before the break, but it finished honours even, whilst Erith Town were held at Kennington to stay seventh.
Scott Porter’s first game in charge at Lydd Town ended in defeat as two Zak Byron penalties proved decisive as VCD Athletic won at Lyndsey Field by 3-2 – Byron’s first spot kick and Charlie Heatley gave the visitors a two-goal lead at the break, but the home side rallied and levelled through Luke Burdon and Dean Grant before Byron won it from 12 yards at the death!
Elsewhere Lordswood edged Stansfeld by the odd goal in five, and Sutton drew with Rusthall.
The game of midweek saw Faversham Town from two down at Deal Town – a brace from Aaron Millbank – before the visitors netted twice in the last five minutes to salvage a point through Sam Hasler and Kieron Campbell.
Glebe were within a minute of extending their lead to six points as they led at Erith Town through Reece Barratt’s goal. Jake Lovell’s injury time goal gave the home side a point to leave them on the edges of the Play Off places.
Corinthian missed the chance to close the gap and came within three minutes of a shock defeat at lowly Stansfeld who led 2-1 through two from Reiss Skeen with Luke Adams pulling one back. Oscar Housego levelled the scores on 87 minutes to gain a point for the visitors…
Elsewhere in midweek, Lydd Town needed a last-minute Troy Howard goal to get a 2-2 draw at Tunbridge Wells; having conceded six on Saturday, Holmesdale put four past Hollands & Blair at Star Meadow without reply, Kennington beat Sutton and Fisher won at Rusthall.
Whyteleafe remain nine points clear at the top of Division one, but things behind them are getting congested as Lewisham and Staplehurst are second and third respectively divided by goal-difference with Rochester United falling a point behind. Larkfield are in the last Play Off place and remain four points in front of sixth placed Canterbury City having played two games fewer.
