In a reduced schedule because of the weather, Glebe extended their lead at the top of the SCEFL standings at the weekend, but Deal Town’s march up the table continued on Tuesday.
The Hoops who should have travelled to Bridgewater in the Vase at the weekend – postponed until next weekend because of the weather – looked on as Glebe won 3-1 at Kennington. The visitors fell behind to a goal from Fin Dent, but responded with goals from Jason Banton, Jon Erharbor and Jamie Philpot’s twenty-first goal of the season to move five points clear of Tommy Warrilow’s Faversham Town who were rained off.
Then on Tuesday evening, Deal Town ran out 4-0 winners at home to Hollands & Blair to leapfrog Faversham Town and Corinthian into second place courtesy of Macauley Murray’s penalty and second half strikes from Ben Chapman, Ashley Miller and Ifi Oni. The result means that Deal Town are now just four points off the top of the table but still with five games in hand.
In the result of the weekend, fifth placed Bearsted’s great recent run continued as they won 3-1 at fourth placed Corinthian to cut the gap between the two to three points. Jack Palmby gave the Bears an early lead, but Luke Adams levelled early in the second half. As the game looked destined to finish level, Will Johnson-Cole struck in minutes 89 and 90 to seal the win.
Whitstable Town remain level on points with Bearsted albeit having played three games more after a one goal win at VCD Athletic courtesy of Reece Gillies’ goal on the stroke of half time.
The only other League games to beat the weather saw both away sides win 3-1 – the scoreline that was the result in four of the five games played.
Punjab United won 3-1 at Blair – Steve Ratcliff, Neil Spencer and Cruis Nyadzayo for the visitors with Richard Atkins’ spot kick replying for the Gillingham side. And Lordswood won 3-1 at Welling Town. Josh Reid and Callum Peck gave the visitors the lead before Sam Bailey pulled one back only for Artem Kuckkov to seal the win in stoppage time.
Erith Town reached the last four of the League Cup by winning 3-1 at Holmesdale. The home side were ahead through Jack Tancred’s early goal before three in seven second half minutes before the hour from Ollie Milton and a brace from Jake Lovell, as Erith Town join AFC Whyteleafe, Corinthian, and Deal Town in the last four.
In the first division, leaders Whyteleafe hit Faversham Strike Force for six at Salters Lane. Staplehurst are up to second after winning 2-1 at Forest Hill as Rochester lost by the same score to Croydon. Lewisham Borough lost ground losing 3-1 at Tooting Bec, whilst Larkfield and New Hythe stay in the final Play Off places with a NINE NIL drubbing of Greenways at Cobdown, with five of the nine coming in the final twenty minutes!
In other news, it has been confirmed this week that Welling Town have agreed a new long-term agreement to be based at K Sports, Cobdown.
