Saturday’s SCEFL action saw a full fixture sheet, with 29 goals scored in ten games and VCD Athletic extending their dominance at the top.
Points dropped from their closest competitors and a 2-0 win over Lordswood allowed the Vickers to increase their lead in first to eight points. Two second half goals from Neil Spencer and Richard Jimoh proved enough to maintain their unbeaten start and solidify their grip on the top spot.
Second-placed Faversham Town drew 2-2 at home to Corinthian, despite having the lead for most of the game. It was Callum Davies and Tashi-Jay Kwayie that gave them that lead after Henry Arnold’s opener, but Alexander Jack Billings cancelled the sides out in the 78th minute.
Holmesdale also drew as they were involved in the highest scoring game of the weekend. A 3-3 scoreline with Snodland Town allowed them to keep their place in third. Jack Church opened the scoring for the Dalers before Ryan Thompson and Tristan Lock turned the game in Snodland’s favour. Lewis Heywood-Oriogun and a penalty from Sam Bayford restored Holmesdale’s lead, only for Bobby Dunn to level the game once again four minutes from time.
Punjab United maintained their place in the top five following a 1-0 win against a struggling Kennington. A first half goal from Jack Barry was all that separated the sides at The Steve Cook Stadium, leaving Kennington just two points above the drop zone.
Stansfeld moved further towards safety with their 1-0 win over Whitstable. Rob Hughes’ early goal proved decisive, as Stansfeld are now eight points above bottom-placed Rusthall.
Lydd Town held Tunbridge Wells to a draw at Culverden but dropped to 17th as a result. The visitors led thanks to an early Sam Adams goal, and the hosts’ only response came in the form of Regan Corke in the 70th minute.
Another draw was played out when playoff chasers Larkfield & New Hythe and Fisher met. Tyler Ibe and Matt Day put Larkfield two to the good, but drama ensued as two penalties from Armani-Jordan Martin in the 85th and 98th minute snatched a point for Fisher.
Erith & Belvedere edged closer to the playoffs after rescuing a draw against Sutton Athletic, who led from the first half onwards. Tunde Aderonmu’s late brace left the hosts with a point, and within breathing distance of Larkfield in fifth.
Fred Dillon’s Glebe side continued their good run of form as they cruised to a 3-0 win against Bearsted. Jamie Philpot added to his goal tally with a fourth minute opener, and goals in the latter stages of the game from Jerry Nnamani and Alfie Kitt sealed all three points.
A managerless Hollands & Blair found a win against Rusthall in their first game since Luke Jessup’s departure. Two goals in the opening half from Charlie Sheringham and David Chandler put the hosts 2-0 up, and that was how the score remained. It is strongly rumoured that former manager Scott Porter will return to the club and assume the vacant managerial position.
