A twelve-goal thriller between Stansfeld and Rusthall on Wednesday wrapped up an eventful round of midweek SCEFL action.
Visitors Rusthall were in need of a spirited second-half comeback after trailing 4-1 at the interval, and they provided just that. A goal just after the break from Louie Clarke got them on their way, and by the 81st minute Yassin Fares had edged them in front. Harvey Mead balanced the score again before stoppage time chaos ensued, with Rusthall’s believed winner cancelled out by a 97th minute Greg Williams equaliser.
The two unbeaten sides going into the week no longer hold that status, as both Faversham Town and VCD Athletic finally fell to defeat on Tuesday. Tommy Warrilow’s side were overcome by Larkfield & New Hythe, with Tyler Ibe’s 86th minute goal the difference in their 1-0 loss.
League-leaders VDC were stunned after Punjab United raced into an early 3-0 lead. The Vickers could only muster two late goals through Robert Burton and Richard Jimoh in response, seeing their lead ahead of Punjab slashed to four points.
Fisher made a stride forward in their hunt for promotion as they beat fellow playoff-chasers Holmesdale. Tyler Mbuenimo and Courtney Barrington sealed all three points before half-time, moving them a point ahead of their opponents with three games in hand.
Bearsted were able to maintain their pressure on the top five after beating Lydd Town in dramatic fashion. Samuel Stace’s opener was swiftly responded to by Lydd’s Ryan Philpot, but Jesse Darko’s composure to dispatch the hosts’ 93rd minute penalty dragged them to within four points of the playoffs.
A dramatic game between Glebe and Erith & Belvedere was abandoned, despite the Deres’ holding the lead with two minutes to play. Glebe held a two goal lead for all of 50 minutes, but Freddie Baker, Tunde Aderonmu and Dieko Falade all contributed to putting the Deres 3-2 ahead. With five minutes played of added time, the stadium’s floodlights cut out, leading to the game’s abandonment and no result awarded as of yet.
Lordswood’s slip down the table continued following a loss to Sutton Athletic, with Connor Evans’ early goal all that separated the sides. They now sit 17th in the table, just two points above the relegation zone.
Kennington’s misery also continued, as they remain bound to the bottom two after a heavy defeat to Snodland Town. A Nathan Jeche hat-trick (consisting of two penalties) and a Kaelem Sobhee-Turner goal dealt the damage for the hosts, as they went on to win 4-1 and move to 12th in the table.
