Wednesday night’s battle at the bottom of the table between Lydd Town and Hollands & Blair wrapped up the latest round of SCEFL fixtures.
Hollands & Blair emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, seeing Luke Jessup’s side jump to fourteenth. James Rogers opened the scoring early in the first half for Lydd, but a late goal from Devonte West capped off the visitors’ second half comeback.
Tuesday saw high-flying VCD Athletic capitalise on Holmesdale’s shock loss to extend their lead in first place. Goals from Bethel Gboda and Ollie Freeman secured a 2-0 win over Fisher for the Vickers and increased their lead over Holmesdale to five points.
Second-placed Holmesdale lost at home to a previously winless Sutton Athletic. Despite Sam Bayford clawing the hosts back into the game, Arun Suman’s winner in the 97th minute sealed a 2-1 win for Sutton, lifting them five places to fifteenth.
Bearsted’s clash with Snodland Town was unfortunately abandoned with the score at 1-1. Jesse Darko and Stanley Oldfield were the respective scorers for each side, but a serious injury to Bearsted’s William Johnson-Cole saw the tie abandoned five minutes from time.
Erith & Belvedere recovered some ground in the hunt for a playoff spot after beating Stansfeld 2-1. Chris Alhassan pegged the Deres back after equalising before the hour mark, but Tyller Davis-Whitlock’s last gasp goal sealed their derby victory.
The theme of late winners continued in Kennington’s meeting with Whitstable Town, with the Oystermen the beneficiaries. Omotunmise Akanni scored the only goal of the game in the 92nd minute, keeping Whitstable within one point of the playoffs.
Faversham Town and Punjab United reconsolidated their places in the top four. A brace from Tashi-Jay Kwayie, as well as goals from Johan Caney-Bryan, Nathan Wood and Kieron Campbell scored Tommy Warrilow’s side a 5-0 win at Lordswood, while Lea Dawson’s goal saw Punjab over the line against Glebe.
Tunbridge Wells were also able to cling onto their playoff spot with a 1-0 win against Larkfield & New Hythe. Jack Walder’s second half goal proved enough for the three points, but Whitstable lurk just one point behind with a game in hand.
The highest scoring game of the week came at Rusthall, where Corinthian came back to win 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. Henry Arnold’s quick brace put Corinthian two to the good, but a bout of goals from Jack Lyons, Robbie Bissett and Charlie Clover saw Rusthall lead. The visitors, however, responded in quick fashion, with Richie Atkins and Alexander Jack Billings restoring their lead and rescuing the win.
