Scally looking for Gills investment

Chairman Paul Scally has told Gillingham fans he has ambitions to move to a new ground that could cost around £300 million.

Speaking at the club’s fans forum held at the MEMS Priestfield Stadium on Tuesday night, Scally revealed he still has clear plans to move to a new site at Mill Hill.

The evening, organised by Head Coach, Adrian Pennock, was an overwhelming success as fans got their chance to question the club’s management, chairman and coaching staff ahead of the new season starting away to Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

One of the key points to come from the evening was the fact that Scally still harbours serious hopes of moving away from Priestfield and that he’s still looking for new investment into the club:

“I have been working with different investment groups, some in the middle east and we are an attractive proposition.” said Scally.

“Every week I have a meeting with either a new group or the same group that have come back. On Friday I had an American group here.”

“My responsibility is not to take the first buck that comes along.”

“One of the jobs I have to do next is a presentation to local residents. I have to meet local councillors but we are on a good slope.”

Meanwhile, Scally has a legal battle to face first with former catering operators Centreplate.

With a court case due for early November, Scally is hoping things get resolved beforehand and admits Gillingham Football Club are in a good place financially:

“Nothing goes into any particular case. The court case is already three quarters won. They have already conceded liability.”

“They have offered £900,000. We win the case, the costs will come back.”

“It’s possible the court case will get settled in the next few days. It’s a question of how much they owe. We rejected £900,000.”

“Club could receive up to £2.2 million. They do not have a case, there is pride at stake.”

The rest of the evening saw Pennock talk about the season ahead and his desire to add to the squad in the coming weeks.

Fitness last season was an issue that was raised with all concerned suggesting the players would be a lot fitter this coming campaign.

With just days now until the start of the new campaign, fans won’t have to wait for long to find out after a near perfect pre-season.
