Floodlight football returns to Bayliss Avenue on Wednesday evening when SC Thamesmead entertain Lewisham Borough in a Southern Counties East Football League First Division match.
Both teams will be going all out for victory for very different reasons. Three wins and a draw have taken the hosts out of the bottom three for the first time this season. They have found form at just the right time after their horror start to the season in which they picked up just one point in their first eleven games.
On Saturday, they defeated Faversham Strike Force three-two. They went behind to a Tom Barton goal in the sixteenth minute but levelled eleven minutes later through Jack Highwood.
The visitors went back ahead eleven minutes into the second half when Brooke Tiernan netted however, Paul Lee equalised with ten minutes remaining. Two minutes later the turnabout was completed when Ben Lockett scored the winner.
It has been a solid season for Lewisham Borough and they sit in fifth place in the table and have a cup final ahead of them. They had a rocky March in which they only picked up two points in four games, and they have won two and lost two in April but are clinging on to the final play-off spot.
They played league leaders AFC Whyteleafe away on Saturday and went down three-one. Temi Alaka put the hosts ahead in the sixteenth minute and Aaron Watson added a second five minutes after the break.
Adekunle Adeyinka scored to give Lewisham hope with fifteen minutes remaining but the hosts settled it with a third goal in the final minute scored by Gus Ward.
When the two teams met at the Ladywell Stadium, just over a week ago, the visitors claimed the three points courtesy of goals by Zak Loveridge and Sean Adams.
This game could go a long way towards determining the fates of both teams.
