On Monday night SC Thamesmead host FC Elmstead in the Kent Senior Trophy Preliminary Round.
Both play their league football in the Presence & Co. Southern Counties East Football League First Division, but neither team played on Saturday. Therefore, the Acre remain on five points from seven games whie Elmstead have amassed fourteen from their seven.
Their respective last outings saw Thamesmead held to a goal-less draw at home to Soul Tower Hamlets last Monday while two nights later, the Cocks won four-nil at Bridon Ropes through goals by Stacey Petrou, a Keiran Shrimpton penalty and a pair of own goals.
At this early point in the season, the two teams are yet to meet in the league. Last season, Elmstead took the three points from Bayliss Avenue in December with a three-nil win. Kane Fitton opened the scoring on the stroke of half time. Akolawole Salami added a second with fifteen minutes remaining and Kameiko Pope-Campbell rounded off the scoring with four minutes left.
When they met again in February, neither side scored in the first half and it was the Acre who broke the deadlock six minutes into the second period through Alfie Kitt.
Three minutes later Salami scored an equaliser and when Pope-Campbell put Elmstead ahead after a further five minutes it looked like they were well on their way to a double.
Kitt had other ideas, though, and levelled the scoring with fifteen minutes remaining. No further scoring meant that the match ended in a draw.
Whoever wins will visit Snodland in the First Round.
