Maidstone’s manager, Jay Saunders, refused to be too despondent following the result and acknowledged the difference in the two sets of
forwards.
He said “you’ve seen the difference tonight between the teams at the top and the bottom. Their front three are as good as anything in this league and they’ve had four real chances and taken each one. We’ve created a lot of chances, but that’s the story of our season in both boxes; we weren’t quite good enough.”
Saunders was clear about his feelings when, at 1-2, Maidstone had a shout for a penalty when Steve Arnold appeared to bring down Yemi
Odubade.
He confirmed “it’s a definite pen, it’s at a key moment, and I think the keeper has said as much to Yemi at the time. We’re having one of those spells where things aren’t going for us. We’ve created enough chances tonight that you have to believe things will change. I didn’t see it as a 4-1 game, but their front three are very, very good.
“When they get a chance, they take it. The lads are disappointed, and we probably need to add one or two in key areas, but we’ll keep fighting at Guiseley next week”.
