Samuel Montagu F.C. are planning to build a community cafe and garden area at their premises to create a fun and relaxing environment for the community, youth club members, aspiring footballers and all visitors to the club to enjoy, and they are looking for financial assistance via ‘GoFundMe’.
The cafe will serve value for money food and drinks to suit a variety of budgets. Also, they will offer work experience to local youths and opportunities for volunteers to gain experience and qualifications in the hospitality industry. Their hope is that building this space will provide a community hub where all will feel welcome and valued.
Former Arsenal FC and England schoolboy professional Craig Holloway and one time semi-professional footballer Wayne Hogsden relaunched the football club in the Summer of 2019, based on Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, London, SE3 8ND at the Samuel Montagu Youth Centre. Holloway is a former club member from the original Samuel Montagu Youth Club where he spent many of his evenings after school.
After almost 30 years within the football game and being a UEFA B licensed coach he decided to reform Samuel Montague FC with Hogsden. He is also a qualified personal trainer and is keen to teach his players the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle in diet and drug awareness.
He is well known in local circles football having played for Gravesend and Northfleet, Bromley Welling United, Margate and Dartford. He had a spell as manager of Margate and First Team Coach and is back at Margate as Goalkeeping Coach.
Also coaching at Samuel Montagu is another former player, Peter Sweeney who went on to make his name at Millwall before having spells at other clubs including Leeds United and Stoke City. He has also had local football manager experience having held the hot seat at Chislehurst baced Glebe.
Peter Burke is the Head Goalkeeping coach. He spent four years at Tottenham Hotspur before moving on to Dartford, Gravesend and Northfleet and Sheppey United before settling at VCD Athletic for twelve years including a spell as Assistant Manager/Goalkeeping Coach.
Since reforming, Samuel Montagu have put together 13 teams from U7’s up to U13’s and they also have ‘Little Montys’, their soccer school for age 3-6 years old.
As a club, for the community, they would welcome any donation.
