Football legend Tommy Sampson is to become an honorary Vice President of Kent FA.

The 57 year old, who lives in Maidstone, is now an advisor to the management team at Ryman League Division One South club Faversham.

Tommy’s finest hour was winning the FA Carlsberg Vase when he was manager of Kent League side Deal Town underneath the iconic twin towers of Wembley 12 years ago.

He also played for Millwall FC, and managed Herne Bay, Tonbridge Angels and Dartford FC..

Tommy suffered a stroke several years ago, which put a halt to his managerial career.

Tommy is renowned in the Kent football community for his wicked sense of humour and fighting spirit.

“I am humbled and honoured to become an Honorary Vice President of Kent Football Association,” says Tommy.

“I was chuffed to bits when I heard the news from Kent FA. I have been passionately involved with the county’s non-league football for nearly forty years now and this latest news is a true highlight of that career.”

Tommy was nominated for the honour by Kent FA Vice President David Holton who said “What Tommy achieved when he took Deal Town to Wembley in the FA Vase was amazing.”

“After suffering a massive stroke a few years ago, the courage he has shown has been incredible. The way he has battled his illness is an inspiration to everyone. He is always on hand to offer support to younger managers, who call on him regularly for advice.”

“I am thrilled that Tommy has accepted this honour from Kent FA – no one deserves it more.”

Tommy will officially be sworn in to his new role at the Kent FA AGM next year.
