Swanley and District Athletics Club volunteers swapped their trainers and vests for jeans and jackets to travel to The Mall on Sunday to work on the Baggage Lorries at the finish line of the London Marathon.
It’s a way for them to say thank you to everyone that has supported them as a runner over the years and to give something back to the running community that is a big part of their day to day life.
Being in London also gave the SADAC team the opportunity to support fellow Swanley athletes who joined more than 39,400 runners to run the 26.2 miles.
Having completed the Brighton Marathon only two weeks previously Justin Deery (raising money for Families Need Fathers), Andy Dunmall (raising money for Motor Neurone Disease) and Mat Woolston soaked up the amazing party atmosphere and succeeded in crossing the finish line of this iconic event with Justin managing to run 13 miles backwards!
For fellow club member Ian Pullen, London was the first step in his marathon journey for 2017 – next step 10 marathons in 10 days to raise money for two local charities Demelza Hospice Care for Children and Sussex Horse Rescue Trust.
Amanda Sims and Rosemarie Davis completed the line-up of runners from Swanley on what turned out to be a fantastic day for everyone involved.
