Kent’s Ryan Dixon was crowned Welsh Open Champion 2024 last weekend at the Aberdare Park Road Races.
It was ten wins and a second place finish across eleven races and two different classes for Dixon. Which gave him the overall victory with the combined results. Quite some effort from the rider from Folkestone.
Dixon gave us his thoughts after an excellent weekend, he said: “It was a good weekend away at Aberdare Park Road Races this weekend. Riding two bikes in three classes, it was pretty full on and I’m definitely feeling it now but it went pretty well. Started 11 ‘competitive races’ and won ten with a second place in the other. Bit annoying to not do the clean sweep with the last race but I’ll take it.
“The other five were the heat races to qualify for the finals which I took wins in the five over the two days. I’ve done around 150 laps over the weekend all in, around the tight, technical and bumpy Aberdare circuit which is probably why I struggle to keep my eyes open writing this!
“A massive thank you to Paul Jinks and the whole Trickbits Raving team for preparing, bringing and spannering the bikes throughout the weekend. They never missed a beat which made my job a little easier.
“Thank you to the whole Aberdare Park organising team, media team, marshals and medics for their hard work in putting the meeting on so we can put on a show.
“Really stepped it up this year with all the coverage etc. the races will be televised in the next couple of weeks on ITV4, I’ll keep you informed of when in case you’d like to take a look.
“Finally, well done to the other competitions, particularly Jay Bellers-Smith and Andrew Smart who kept me on my toes all weekend, good, hard, respectful racing. Also, a big thank you to the guys from the TH Racing team for putting a bit more in the prize pot to make the weekend a little sweeter, nice touch
“Finally, thanks to my dad for driving me all over the show, firstly Hereford for a mid week wedding before heading to Aberdare for the racing!”
