Rushden happy to play his part

Max Rushden was just one of a number of celebrities that took part in a charity football match to raise funds for Winnie who has Leukaemia last weekend.Lashings All-Stars v Maidstone Legends

Ultimately it was a tale of two halves for the celebrities going three-nil up in the first half, only to lose 7-3. Despite the disappointment of defeat, Max was quick to highlight that it is all a bit of fun, but seriously it is in a good cause.

Speaking after the game, the Soccer Am presenter, said: “It was cold, but that is no excuse for what happened to us in the second half. We really need to get back on Monday watch the DVDs, regroup as a team and a unit and get back on the training ground and put it right.

“We are devastated and we won’t sleep well tonight and I just want our fans to know that. We appreciate them paying to come and watch us and we haven’t delivered for them and that is what matters.

“It is important that we come out for these events, there are so many charities that need help and it is important when you play in these games or attend nice charity events as I have. There is always a moment to think about and puts your life into a bit of perspective really.

“There are people out there in reality that need a lot more help than you, and if there is a way of helping we will always do it.”
