Fancy better hearing or an improved sex life?! If so, running may well be the answer!
Studies have thrown up some interesting results and if you’re not already pounding the streets, then maybe it’s time to dig those trainers out!
Scientists from Cambridge University studied 542 runners at the Robin Hood marathon in Nottingham and found that those who finished faster were more likely to have stronger sex drives and higher sperm counts.
Apart from the obvious benefits of fitness and weight loss, running has some other amazing benefits!
They’ve also discovered that the same bodily process that helps fuel the body efficiently during a run also improves memory and learning.
Running can also make you happier. Researchers discovered that jogging purges the blood of a substance known as kynurenine, which accumulates during times of stress and is believed to be linked to depression.
The research has also shown that runners protect themselves from cancer. Finnish scientists revealed those who ran for 30 minutes a day exhibited “a 50 percent reduction in the risk of dying prematurely from cancer,”.
According to research running increases blood flow to your ears, which results in improved hearing!
“The observation that endurance running ability is connected to reproductive potential in men suggests that women in our hunter-gatherer past were able to observe running as a signal for a good breeding partner,” said the study’s lead author, Dr Danny Longman.
“It was thought that a better hunter would have got more meat, and had a healthier – and larger – family as a consequence of providing more meat for his family.”
So there you go, time to dust the trainers off, clear off the mud and get out and do some running.
