The August bank holiday Saw Tunbridge Wells based driver Graham Rumsey in action at the home of Rallycross, Lydden Hill with one goal in his sights and that was to close on the championship lead.
Rumsey made a good start and notched up two second places in the first two qualifying heats. He started Q3 knowing he had to deliver a solid result to guarantee a good grid position for the final. Rumsey delivered exactly what was needed and set the fastest Q3 time by nearly a second.
Starting the final from pole position the tension was noticeably high which resulted in no less than the grid making three false starts! When the race finally got underway he made a great start and hit the first corner firmly in control.
He made a slight misjudgement of the timing of his joker lap and came out in mid field traffic which proved to be problematic. After he had passed a fellow driver he was uncerimonesly shunted into the tyre wall resulting in a red flag and damaging the car to such an extent that he was unable to make to restart.
Despite the frustrating end to the day Rumsey still scored valuable championship points and remains in a good second place less than 10 points off the championship lead.
Round 7 of the championship now returns for its second visit to Pembrey circuit in Wales held on the 25th September.
Speaking after the weekend’s racing, Rumsey said: “I’m Obviously very disappointed with the way the day ended, particularly as everything seemed to be going to plan and I felt a win was on the cards. There’s a lot of work to be done on the car again before the next round, but we will be there”
