Over the Easter weekend Tunbridge Wells based driver Graham Rumsey headed to Lydden Hill in Kent for his home round.
It was Rumsey’s first time racing at the spiritual home of Rallycross so he was to have a lot on his plate.
The weather forecast was the big pre event talking point as storm Katie was due to sweep across the Kent circuit over the two-day event. Rumsey got down to business though.
He was fortunate with his grid draws for all 3 heats drawing the front row twice and the second row once for qualifying.
Rumsey got quicker and quicker as the he learnt the track and the event progressed notching up a fifth, third and a second overall placing. Earning him fourth place on the grid for the final.
In the process Rumsey recorded the second fastest lap time of the weekend! After a hard fought final Rumsey narrowly missed out on his second podium of the year.
Despite the disappointment valuable championship points were scored and Rumsey sits in third place and still has his campaign very much on track for the championship this year.
Graham Rumsey said at the end of the weekend: ‘Disappointed with the result, particularly as Lydden Hill is my local circuit and we had good support from sponsors and friends despite the weather forecast.”
“It was my first outing at the circuit and my times were improving nicely throughout the meeting and having reviewed some of the in car footage, I can see where further improvements are possible, so hoping for much better when we return in August.”
“The car was good however and now looking forward to the double header at Pembrey.”
The championship now heads to Pembrey Circuit in Wales for a double header over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend Sunday 1st and Monday 2nd May.
