Regan Charles-Cook has signed for Gillingham. The 21-year-old has been on the fringes of the first team for several seasons, but has not managed to make the breakthrough.
He made his Charlton debut in 2015 and has made a total of nine appearances. His only goal came in a Carabao Cup game at Exeter last August.
Charles-Cook has had several loan stints away from The Valley, and impressed during his latest spell at Woking.
He was offered a new 12 month deal to stay at The Valley, but opted to sign for Gillingham, where he feels he has a greater chance of playing regular first team football.
Reports in the West Country are linking the Addicks with Plymouth central defender, Sonny Bradley.
Bradley is 26-years-old and came through the youth system at Hull. After a loan spell at Aldershot, he signed on a permanent basis for Portsmouth.
He then moved on to Crawley, before joining the Pigrims in 2016. Bradley has scored 11 goals in 84 league appearances during his stay at Home Park.
Barnsley are also thought to be interested, but Bradley has not ruled out signing a new deal at Plymouth.
Charlton are well stocked with central defenders – Patrick Bauer, Ezri Konsa, Harry Lennon, Jason Pearce and Naby Sarr are all specialists in the position, and Lennon has recently signed an extension to his deal.
If there is any truth in the rumour, it suggests that one or two of the quintet may be exiting The Valley.
Konsa made his debut for the England Under-21 side on Monday, and was one of the stars in the 0-0 draw with Mexico.
Another player being mentioned as a possible target for the Addicks is Shrewsbury’s skipper, Abu Ogogo.
The former Arsenal trainee is 28-years-old and vastly experienced, having made well over 300 league appearances for Barnet, Dagenham & Redbridge and the Shrews.
These are tough times for Shrewsbury. Inspirational manager, Paul Hurst, left to take over the reins at Ipswich on Wednesday, and they will struggle to repeat the success of this season.
Charlton’s first warm up game of the new campaign – at Welling on 7 July – will now kick-off at 12.30pm.
The game has been brought forward to avoid a possible clash with England, who could be playing a World Cup quarter-final match on the same afternoon.
