Medway based racing driver Simon Rudd is ready and raring to get his debut Tin Top season underway this weekend.
Rudd has made the move from Single seaters to race in the VW Cup for the first time ever in the coming campaign with Team HARD racing.
Speaking to Kent Sports News ahead of the season opener, Simon was clearly excited to make his debut, he said: “Definitely, I can’t wait. I have had a test day in the car and it went well.
It is going to be an interesting time for Simon as he makes the move to race in a VW Golf and he admits it has been a steep learning curve.
He added: “Yes completely, going from an aerodynamic rear wheel drive to a front wheel heavier car is quite a change.
“I am adapting my driving style to suit the car and hopefully it won’t be long until I am fully comfortable with everything.”
As well as having to learn a new car Simon has also found himself in the unique position of learning some of the tracks to, not that it phases him in the slightest.
He said: “Oulton Park is a track that I haven’t driven before this week and it will be my first race in the car – so I would be content with a points finish in the opening rounds. I would like to be constantly in the top ten heading towards the end of the season.”
Simon couldn’t have picked a better team to work with this season as he will be guided by Team HARD and Tony Gilham who has plenty of racing experience he can pass on to his drivers.
Reflecting on being part of Team HARD, Simon added: “It is a great team to be in. They have the experience of the VW cup from last year and all my team mates are very good drivers with experience of the BTCC and WTCC. It is going to be a great season.”
