This year has seen Simon Rudd experience a whole rollercoaster of emotions in his debut season in the inaugural Formula Four.
He competed in a number of the opening rounds for Motionsport but has had to unfortunately miss the last few rounds, including his home races at Brands Hatch.
Simon is hoping to be able to take part in the winter series of the Formula Four season and he is looking for potential sponsors to be able to achieve the dream.
Today Simon takes Kent Sports News through how he progressed to be part of the Formula Four grid this season and the potential sponsors for the winter series.
I was the NKA Championship Runner up, World Record Holder and 4 x Le Mans 24 hours Karting Champion tested a Formula Renault Euro Cup as part of a prize won at the Henry Surtees Foundation race in 2012.
This led to negotiations to be part of the inaugural BRDC Formula 4 Championship in 2013 and competed in 3 rounds competed in the at Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Snetterton, picking up 34 points and improving results at each weekend – with very limited testing time.
Formula 4 is currently in its first season of this new single seater series. It has the full backing of Jonathan Palmer (ex Formula 1 driver) and the BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club). The car itself is modern and full of technology.
There was a gap in the market that could allow an affordable ‘step up’ into car racing and Formula 4 was the choice. With a full grid of 24 drivers, the series has taken off to a great start and has also had the backing of F1 drivers Mark Webber and Jenson Button.
The modern cars, TV coverage and attractive, affordable sponsorship opportunities are just some of the reasons that are making this series such a huge success.
Going forward, I’m looking to take part and raise funds to compete in the 2013 BRDC Formula 4 Winter Series, that will take place over two weekends in November and will comprise of eight races in total.
For the winter series, each day will feature a 20 minute qualifying session and two races of 20 minutes duration, meaning a total of four races per weekend.
The rounds are:
– 9th -10th November – Snetterton 300 – Rounds 1/2/3/4
– 23rd -24th November – Brands Hatch Indy – Rounds 5/6/7/8
The main aim of the winter series for me is to get some seat time in the car and get to know the team in preparation for an attack on the summer championship in 2014 – as well as challenging for podiums and wins during the series.
I have just recently re-branded and launched my personal website, www.simonrudd.co.uk and I am still looking for sponsors for the winter series and ultimately into the 2014 season.
