Rochester driver Simon Rudd is looking to keep improving after a solid weekend at Snetterton in Formula Four.
Rudd is the latest of Kent’s talented drivers we have put through a Q&A session. Here’s what happened when we caught up with Simon this week:
1. You qualified in 15th place were you satisfied with your efforts?
We were all ready for qualifying and then with 5mins to go it poured down with rain! So a quick change and straight out to qualify happened so quickly. As it was my first session in the wet, I was happy with 15th place. It is good to see the improvements and moving up the field for race 1.
2. In race one you finished in P14 that shows some consistency doesn’t it?
I was satisfied with race 1, started 15th and finished 14th so I was happy to move up the field. Consistent points finishes is the aim at the start of the weekend, so getting that in Race 1 was a huge boost.
3. Did you know what improvements that you then wanted to make going into Sunday?
As Race 1 was our only run in the dry on Saturday, we had checked out the data and made some changes to the car for Sunday – hoping it would stay dry!
4. What is it like to drive round Snetterton in a formula four car, it is quite high speed isn’t it?
Yeah, Snetterton is a fast track. It has almost everything, long straights, short straights, fast corners, slow corners and a few overtaking opportunities. Driving the car round there is really good and trying to perfect every part is a huge challenge!
5. You followed up in race two and three with 16th and 17th places, that shows the consistency is there doesn’t it?
It was good to get some points in all 3 races at the weekend, although I was disappointed with the results. In Race 2 I made a mistake and went from 12th to 16th and in Race 3 I was hit into turn 1 and got spun off the track. It is good to see that the improvements with the results are being made though!!
6. Are you pushing forward for the next rounds of the season and some further testing in the meantime?
I want to get some testing in before the next rounds to really knuckle down and make some bigger improvements, so we will sit down and get a plan together for the second half of the season.
