The Volkswagen Racing Cup heads to Oulton Park this weekend and Simon Rudd heads there full of confidence.
Having finished on the podium in the opening round of the season, and a pole position to go with it at Rockingham.
Speaking about that opening weekend of the season, a delighted Rudd said: “I was very happy. We had a plan to run two warm up laps with three hot laps as our pace on Friday was good and we wanted to keep some life in the tyres.
“We managed pole at the last round of 2015 so it was not a brand new experience. It is great to be in charge of the warm up laps and my concentration was on getting a good start.”
It was a great start to the campaign for Simon as he converted that pole position to a podium finish.
He added: “It was a great start to the season. Our aim was to be in the top three at the beginning of the weekend and I was delighted with second. Phil did a great job defending and I think if I had managed to pull a move off then I would have gone onto win – but that’s racing!
“The success ballast does make a difference but to be honest my race was more hampered by other cars going a lot slower. By the time I was past the gap to the leaders was too much to make up.
“Yep, a great start to the season. It was vital that we picked up some good points this weekend and the bonus of being on pole shows that our outright pace is right up there.”
The season now heads to Oulton Park for round two of the season and Simon is ready to hit the track and try and emulate the opening round of the season.
“I am really looking forward to the rest of the season to challenge for the championship. Last season was about getting the best results I could achieve but this year is about the championship and picking up points at every race. There is no reason we can’t be there or thereabouts at the end of the year!”
