Gillingham have captured their second signing of the week with the addition of former Huddersfield Town winger, Aaron Rowe.
The 23-year-old spent last season on loan at Crewe Alexandra and played in last month’s Sky Bet League 2 Play-Off Final against Crawley Town at Wembley.
Rowe, born in Hackney, began his youth career at Leyton Orient but made his professional debut for Huddersfield in March 2019 in a Premier League fixture at home to Bournemouth. He made his first start the following week away to West Ham United in a 4-3 defeat.
During the 2019-20 season, which was curtailed early due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Aaron had loan spells at both Bromley and Boston before returning to the John Smith’s Stadium.
The following season, Rowe made 20 appearances in the Championship and scored in a 2-0 win at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.
In August of last year, Aaron signed for Crewe on a season-long loan deal and netted five times in 47 appearances in all competitions. He was released by Huddersfield last month.
Manager, Mark Bonner, said: “Aaron has shown last season his ability to put games together and play in a variety of positions. It’s a key period for him to continue developing and improving within our team and use his experiences of League Two last season to hit the ground running this term.
“He is a quick winger, creative in one v one situations and direct in his approach. Aaron helps us change the dynamic of the team and will be relied upon to express himself and get people off their seats.
“I’m looking forward to helping him achieve his best level with us this season and to help us towards being the team we want to become.”
Aaron added: “I am buzzing, when I heard of the interest I was really excited. It’s always good to have new challenges in your career.
“I am a tricky winger and I like to take on players. I like to take a lot of risks, I want to bring goals and assists.”
