If you watch old American cop films, you may have noticed the fire hydrants on the streets of New York. The hydrants were made by Guest & Chrimes in their Rotherham foundry.
The export trade was such a lucrative source of income that the area around the foundry became known locally as New York.
The foundry has long since gone, with Rotherham United’s new ground standing on the former site.
The Millers have beaten Wolves at the New York Stadium but have lost their last two matches to Brentford and Watford, failing to score in both games.
Steve Evans’ teams are always physical, have an incredible work ethic and the Addicks will have to be on their mettle if they are to take the three points home.
Bob Peeters has been consistent in his team selection but will have one or two decisions to make.
Stephen Henderson will be in goal and Chris Solly is likely to return at right-back. Tal Ben Haim, Andre Bikey and Rhoys Wiggins will complete the back line.
Johann Gudmundsson will be assessed on Friday morning before the team set off for Yorkshire. Though he is likely to be fit enough to be involved, Peeters will be wary of the likely physicality of the match and may decide to give his Icelandic international longer to recover.
If so, Lawrie Wilson will probably continue on the right, with Yoni Buyens, Johnnie Jackson and Jordan Cousins completing the midfield quartet.
Igor Vetokele suffered a late arm injury against Wolves on Tuesday but is expected to play. George Tucudean will probably be the Angolan’s partner up front.
Frederic Bulot impressed in his late cameo on Tuesday and is likely to be introduced from the bench at some stage.
Charlton could start with this team:
Henderson; Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey, Wiggins; Wilson, Buyens, Jackson, Cousins; Tucudean, Vetokele.
Subs: Pope, Fox, Morrison, Moussa, Bulot, Harriott, Church.
The referee will be Darren Deadman from Cambridgeshire.
Peeters will be hoping to gain his first away win of the campaign. His side will have to match Rotherham’s work ethic but he will be confident of picking up the three points.
