Karl Robinson admitted at his Thursday press conference that he is being frustrated in his attempts to bolster Charlton’s striking options.

With Lee Novak possibly leaving next week, he‎ would ideally like to bring in two front men.

Here is what he had to say about the situation:

“We’ve been rejected with two bids and the player’s club’s valuation goes way above what we feel is right for that player.
“We are in the market for a striker but it has got to be the right one and it has got to be the one to take us forward.

“I’ve been told that the ability for us to do that is there, but the problem we have is that the players we want are also wanted by their clubs.

“That happens at the top level and that happens at every level. We’ll keep trying, we’ve got seven days and the board have said to me to push hard.

“We’re working around the clock to try and get something done, but if a club does not want to sell a player then that player won’t move. It’s as simple as that.‎”

The player the Addicks made a bid for is thought to be Wigan’s Will Grigg, who had a successful spell under Robinson at MK Dons.

Another player Charlton have enquired about is Bristol City’s Matty Taylor.

Foremost on Robinson’s mind right now though is Saturday’s game at Rotherham. In their only other league game at the New York Stadium this season, the Millers crushed Southend 5-0, so Charlton can expect a tough afternoon in South Yorkshire.

But Robinson’s team are in good form themselves, and will approach the game with confidence.

Lee Novak scored at Norwich in the week, after completing his three match suspension‎ for the red card he picked up against Bristol Rovers in the first game of the season.

Andrew Crofts is still suspended, but will be available for Tuesday’s Checkatrade Trophy match at Crawley.

Ben Reeves may be fit enough for a place on the bench.

The Addicks could line-up something like this:

Amos; Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Dasilva; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Fosu, Clarke, Holmes; Magennis.

Subs: Phillips, Konsa, Sarr, Aribo, Reeves, Ahearne-Grant, Novak.

Rutland’s Trevor Kettle will be the man in charge.

It will not be easy for the south Londoners, but if they have serious promotion aspirations, they need to get something from games like this.

Robinson will be confident they can do just that.
