Rotherham’s New York Stadium – situated just 600 yards from their old Millmoor home – is an impressive venue, definitely one of the better new stadia.
Team wise, Chris Solly, Johann Gudmundsson and Franck Moussa came in for Joe Gomez, Lawrie Wilson and George Tucudean.
After a bright start, the Millers were put on the back foot by Charlton’s passing game. The Addicks took the lead after 27 minutes when Gudmundsson cut in from the right to rifle a shot beyond Scoot Loach in the Millers goal.
Moussa, Tal Ben Haim and Rhoys Wiggins all went close as the half drew to a close. In truth, the visitors should have gone in with a bigger advantage.
Rotherham started the second period as they began the first, but this time they kept the initiative for much of the half.
Their tactic of floating diagonal balls to the far post, coupled with hard work, made it difficult for the Addicks to sustain any pressure.
The Millers had an effort disallowed for offside just past the hour mark but they finally equalised twenty minutes from time.
Tal Ben Haim was dispossessed on the edge of the box by Luciano Becchio, who fed Paul Green on the left. Green’s pinpoint cross presented Becchio with a simple header to level things up.
Charlton rallied late on and came desperately close to snatching a winner five minutes from the end. Frederic Bulot cut in from the left and his deflected effort from an acute angle was clawed back from the line by Loach.
So Peeters’ unbeaten start to the season carries on but the boss will be unhappy that his team has now dropped eight points from a winning position.
