Roller Derby will be coming to Swallows Leisure Centre, Sittingbourne on Saturday 26th March.
Medway Mayhem Men’s Roller Derby – Kent’s first men’s roller derby team – will be hosting the first heat of an exciting new tournament.
The ‘Roller Derby Sevens Men’s Southern Cup’ will run from 2pm until 7pm and promises action, excitement and full force contact. All on roller skates.
The increasingly popular sport of roller derby is played on quad roller skates, with two teams of 5 players competing to score the most points. Points are scored by the ‘jammer’, who attempts to skate quickly around the track and past all of the opposing players.
In this full contact sport, the opposing players try to prevent the jammer from scoring by ‘hitting’ them out of the way or using their bodies to block the jammer’s path. In the short format ‘Sevens’ version of the sport, games last for 21 minutes.
Heat 1 of the Men’s Southern Cup will be hotly contested with Medway Mayhem facing stiff competition from Essex Men’s Roller Derby, Surrey Jammerwockies and Weald Warriors.
Tickets for this jam packed afternoon of sporting action are £8 in advance (available from http://menssoutherncupheatone.brownpapertickets.com/) or £10 on the door.
