Roller-coaster season opener for Scott

Sittingbourne based Super 1600 hopefull Darren Scott headed north to Croft in North Yorkshire for the season opener of the Toyo Tires MSA British Rallycross Rallycross Championship.

After a successful practice session Scott lined up on the front row for Qualifying 1 but in the process snapped a drive shaft, after some frantic work a new drive shaft was fitted and Scott was back on the grid for Q2.

This time around Scotts efforts were rewarded with the fourth fastest time and everything appeared to be coming good for the Kent racer. Unfortunately, in a cruel twist of fate he was involved in a racing incident after a good start from the second row on the grid, but the damaged he sustained was too much to get fixed and he was forced to retire from the event.

The championship now moves on to the second round and Scott’s home event when it visits Lydden Hill in Kent for the first of two visits in Rallycrosses 50th birthday year. Racing is on the Easter weekend Monday starting at 9:00am.

Speaking after the weekend, Scott said: “Such a frustrating day, but it’s a new car to me and we are still learning about it. I have to now put round 1 behind me and chalk it up as a learning curve. There’s still a long way to go in the championship and I plan to push hard every step of the way. The car was spot on when it was running as it should do.”
