Mike Conway will get his 2021 campaign underway this Saturday at the Daytona International Speedway, as he prepares to line up on pole position for the revered Rolex 24 at Daytona with Action Express Racing.
The 2019-20 FIA WEC World Champion lines up for his fourth appearance at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, where he claimed a best result of second place in 2018 at the wheel of the #31 Whelen Engineering Cadillac DPi-VR.
Taking the wheel of the #31 once more, Mike will be joined by regular Michelin Endurance Cup team mates Felipe Nasr and Pipo Derani alongside 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, and Rolex 24 newcomer, Chase Elliott, for the opening round of the 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The #31 squad will start the 59th running of the 24-hour race from pole position courtesy of Nasr and Derani’s triumph in the inaugural Motul Pole Award 100 qualification race.
Racing around the 3.56-mile sportscar course of the legendary Daytona circuit, the drivers will contend with a unique blend of the circuit’s banked oval and the tight, twisting infield corners of the road course.
“I’m really looking forward to getting the weekend started,” Mike said. “We’ve taken second place before so the aim is to go one better this time around. We’ve a really good dynamic as a team, I’ve known Felipe and Pipo for a long time and we’ve enjoyed working together previously.
“I’m excited to race alongside Chase too – he’s a great talent and I think we’ve got a great chance between the four of us. Felipe and Pipo have already demonstrated how quick the car is by bagging us pole for the race so we’ve just got to keep that momentum going!”
With a 49-car field set to compete, the Rolex 24 at Daytona is scheduled to get underway at 15:40 EST (20:40 GMT) on Saturday 30th January, running non-stop through to 15:40 EST (20:40 GMT) on Sunday 31st January.
