Rochester based racing driver Simon Rudd has signed up to drive in Formula Four for the 2013 season.Simon Rudd

Rudd has cut his teeth in the Karting Scene and is looking now to make the next step into the series that will hopefully help as a stepping stone on the way to every racing drivers dream Formula One.

The 23-year-old has a good pedigree underlined by the fact that he finished second in the Henry Surtees Foundation Cup at his karting circuit Buckmore Park in 2012.

Speaking about making the move into Formula Four for the 2013 season, he said: ““I’m really excited and grateful to Motionsport for giving me this opportunity. Formula 4 was my main plan for this season, with it being a new series it’s more of a level playing field. It’s difficult to have any expectations at the moment but I’m looking forward to driving the car and I’d like to be competitive and see where we are.”

He will be driving for the Oxfordshire based Motionsport racing team and his team mate for this season will be Ross Gunn.

Gunn is another 16-year-old with a karting background who won the British Super One Junior Rotax Championship in 2012 a year after winning the British Super One MiniMax Championship. He is going to provide some strong competition for his team mate and the rest of the Formula Four grid in 2013.

Motionsport Team Principal Simon Phillips who took delivery of the 2013 cars at the same time they announced their driver line-up is itching to get the season started.

He said: “So far so good! The cars are impressive and the team at MSV have done a great job of showing us around them. Big compliments to the team both at MSV and RFR, a lot of competence has gone into the car – we had high expectations and the car has far exceeded them so far!

“It’s an exceptionally good value package, and we can’t wait for Silverstone. We’re now looking forward to getting some useful testing under our belts with Ross and Simon before the first round.”

The season begins at the home of British Motorsport Silverstone on the weekend of 27/28 April with the first three rounds of the 2013 calendar.

We will be keeping up-to-date with the progress of our Rochester race ace right here on Kent Sports News throughout the season.
