Two pieces of magic from Josh Morris just past the hour mark, sunk Charlton at Glanford Park on Saturday.

A free-kick – reminiscent of a Ricky Holmes special‎ – and a 25 yard thunderbolt with his weaker right foot, clinched victory for Scunthorpe.

The win extended the Iron’s winning sequence to six, and ended Charlton’s unbeaten nine match streak.

Morris is 26-years-old, a former Blackburn trainee, and has really come to the fore since joining the Iron in the summer of 2015.

Along with Kevin van Veen, he was the inspiration behind Scunthorpe’s run to the play-offs last season.

His half-time introduction on Saturday changed the course of the game. Until then, the Addicks had shaded proceedings and looked the more likely winners.

Here are Karl Robinson’s post match thoughts:

‎“We played well and I’m still in shock.

“I thought we were the better team in the first half, created three top chances and could have had a penalty in the second half.

“Sometimes in football, you’ve got to just applaud certain things. The free-kick is a wonder strike and the second is even better.

“I’m really pleased with my players, we’ve come to a place which is difficult and we played really well, no neutral would disagree with that.

“If we play against the top teams, it will drop for us. Obviously, we have to take our chances, which is the only disappointment.

“Our back four only let them get in once – a header in the first half – but I don’t remember them having any opportunities other than that. And even that one was a half chance.

“Those two strikes were as good as you will see, and it’s unlucky that they’ve both come against us in one game.‎

“We have a game on Tuesday and if we win that, we’re a point behind Scunthorpe with a game still in hand, which is against Shrewsbury.

“This is just a disappointment that we have to move on from. The most important thing for the longevity of our success is that we’re not playing badly, we’re playing well, and that needs to continue.

“I’ve been in games where you’ve been beaten 2-0 and you know you’ve been beaten and you’re scratching around trying to work out where you go from there.

“But we’ve come here with a lot of players missing. We’ve had no Ben Reeves, Billy Clarke, Tariqe Fosu and Jason Pearce and for us to still delve into the depths of our squad and perform as well as we did is a testament to our players.”

Tuesday’s game against Peterborough is one of two that had to be rearranged due to international call-ups, and gives Robinson’s side the chance to narrow the gap on the leaders.

To aid the players’ recovery, Charlton had a mobile cryotherapy unit parked outside the players entrance on Saturday.

The unit can treat up to four players at a time, and though expensive, it should give the Addicks an advantage in Tuesday’s match.
