Kevin Parrish was delighted to see the Invicta Dynamos bounce back from a cup defeat to thrash Romford Raiders in the league at the weekend.Kevin Parrish

A 9-3 loss to the Raiders on Saturday night in the cup deflated the Dynamos, but they turned things around with a 7-3 victory over their local rivals in Gillingham on Sunday night.

Having won their first seven cup fixtures, the Dynamos seemed set for a major final, but they will now rely on Peterborough beating the Essex side to make it through and Parrish doesn’t hold out much hope after seeing his side play one of their worst games of the season:

“We started off with the Saturday and a low and ended the weekend on Sunday with a high, but I want to cut those lows out.”

“Saturday was an awful team performance and the only guy you can really pick out of that performance was Harrison Lillis who had a good game, but you need seventeen other guys around him playing well too.”

“I think for Peterborough to beat Romford is a big ask and for us to get so close to being in a big final and then to throw it away in the way we did was frustrating.”

“I don’t think Romford were actually very good on the night and it just shows how bad we were.”

As it has been for the majority of the season, the Dynamos showed their inconsitency with a great performance on Sunday night to leave Parrish thrilled with his side:

“On Sunday, we had a point to prove and I wasn’t sure if we were going to lie down or get up and fight. Thankfully, we took it to Romford and put seven goals past a team that don’t normally concede many.”

“To win 7-3 in the league pretty much sums up our season, or the whole weekend sums up our season. I think we sometimes get a bit too ahead of ourselves.”

“If we’d have played like that all year, we’d have had the league sewn up by Christmas. It’s the million dollar question as to why we can’t play like that all the time.”

Parrish isn’t one to normally pick out particular players for praise and he was keen to stress that Sunday’s win was down to a great team effort, but had two players in mind for having shown some fighting spirit:

“At 4-3 we clicked into gear and there were two guys that really stood out for me and they were Andy Smith and Andy Moffat.”

“Our captain showed glimpses of what he is all about. I know it takes a team to win a game, but he was unbelievable with what he did with the puck.”

“After being so down after the loss on Saturday, I spoke with him on the way home and he felt like he was letting the side down.”

“He’s not the biggest speaker in the room, but he leads by example with what he does on the ice and on Sunday he was turning people inside out.”

“Andy Moffat was outstanding too considering he hasn’t put on the goalie pads for months even though he has been playing as an outfield player for the Mustangs.”

“He came in and made about six or seven great, great saves and to let in just three goals against a team like that shows his quality.”

“It was good to have him back and he makes everyone smile and builds confidence within the team”

Moffat returned to the side with netminder David Wride having been dismissed following Saturday’s defeat with the Dynamos having issued the following statement on their official website:

“The Invicta Dynamos can announce that netminder David Wride has been dismissed from the club with immediate effect due to gross misconduct.”

“The club cannot make any further comment on this matter and will instead be focusing all of our efforts on completing our league campaign and challenging for the NIHL Southern Playoffs.”

The Dynamos are back in action again this weekend when they face Bracknell Hornets away on Saturday night with another league fixture at home to Wightlink Raiders on Sunday evening.

Face off at the Silver Blades Ice Bowl in Gillingham is 5:15pm with tickets available from www.invictadynamos.co.uk
