Rescue deal for League One and Two
Rescue deal for League One and Two

Premier League clubs will not be backing “Project Big Picture” but have announced on Wednesday some good news for League One and League Two clubs.

The controversial plans that were leaked to the Sunday press were thrown out by the clubs at a meeting but they also announced that they would “work together” on a new “strategic plan” for the “financing of English football”.

They announced a rescue package for League One and Two clubs at the meeting, whilst in their statement, the Premier League said “discussions will also continue with the EFL” over financial support for the Championship.

Chairman, owners and managers across the country will surely welcome the news and Paul Scally and Steve Evans will both be as relieved as their counterparts up and down the country!

The figures behind the offer are simple – on top of the £27.2 million solidarity payments already advanced to the clubs in League One and Two, there will be a further £50 million consisting of grants and interest-free loans made available to clubs.

The payments will hopefully help avoid clubs following Macclesfield Town out of business but at the same time, surely the answer has to be that the authorities do everything in their powers to get spectators back into stadiums as soon as possible whether it be country wide or by region depending on the respective three-tier system that Central Government this week imposed on England.

Mr Scally will be giving his views on BBC Radio Five Live’s Breakfast show on Thursday morning, whilst KSN will be getting the views of Gills boss Evans at our regular Thursday briefing….
