Gillingham manager Steve Evans has added to his midfield options with the capture of former Charlton Athletic forward, Ben Reeves.
The 29-year-old, who was released by Plymouth Argyle at the end of last season, joins Olly Lee at MEMS Priestfield Stadium as the Gills boss bolsters his squad ahead of a challenging 2021/22 campaign.
Reeves began his career in the academy at Southampton and made his professional debut in a Carabao Cup tie against Preston at St. Mary’s in 2011, before making his Championship debut in the January of 2012.
He played 35 times for MK Dons in total in his debut season, scoring 11 times, and he won the club’s “Player of the Year” award as a result prior to signing a two-year contract extension.
In 2014-15, MK Dons finished as runners-up in League 1, winning promotion to the Championship.
After playing 135 games for the club, and scoring 32 goals across a four-year spell, he alerted the attention of other clubs and joined Charlton Athletic for an substantial fee in August of 2017. He won another promotion from League One in his second full season before returning to MK Dons in the summer of 2019 on a one-year deal.
Last summer, Reeves signed for Plymouth Argyle and featured 32 times, scoring twice. He played against the Gills on the final day of the season with Vadaine Oliver’s first-half effort giving Steve Evans’ men a 1-0 win.
The forward has also represented his country on two occasions, playing for Northern Ireland against both Greece and Scotland respectively during the 2014-15 season.
On securing Ben’s signature, the manager said: “Ben is a terrific addition to our squad. His record speaks for itself and I think he will add balance to what is already a very strong midfield.
“I have been speaking with the player for some time and I am absolutely delighted he has decided to join us having had a number of other offers elsewhere in League 1.”
