Charlton make the short trip down the M4 to face Reading on Tuesday evening.
Reading, along with the other two team relegated from the Premier League last season – Queens Park Rangers and Wigan – are doing reasonably well but probably not as well as expected.
Both Rangers and Reading are in the play-off spots, with Wigan five points adrift but with a game in hand.
The Royals are unbeaten at home, winning four and drawing the other four of their fixtures. They will be in good spirits, having beaten Nottingham Forest at the City Ground on Friday night.
The Addicks are in indifferent form and any sort of result at the Madejski would be seen as a bonus.
Reading play a 4-5-1 formation with Pavel Pogrebnyak playing as the lone striker. Chris Powell likes to mirror the opposition’s shape so Simon Church may be confined to bench duties on his return to his former stomping ground.
Bradley Pritchard has not featured since the game at Loftus Road and this may allow Danny Green a rare opportunity to show what he can do.
Powell could go with this team:
Alnwick; Wilson, Morrison, Dervite, Wiggins; Green, Stephens, Cousins, Jackson, Stewart; Kermorgant.
Subs: Pope, Evina, Wood, Pritchard, Hughes, Church, Sordell.
The referee will be Darren Sheldrake of Surrey.
A tough game and the Addicks would happily settle for a point, but they will find that hard to achieve.
