Karlan Ahearne-Grant’s breakthrough into the first team has earned him a call up to the England Under-18 squad. England will play two games against Poland on 15 and 17 November.
It was confirmed on Thursday that Rhoys Wiggins has fractured a bone in his right foot and will be out of action for at least six weeks. Realistically, Wiggins will not be in contention for the first team until the New Year.
Charlton will face Brighton in the last 32 of the Under-21 Premier League Cup. The match will be played at Welling during week commencing 24 November.
Bob Peeters will be buoyed by his team’s battling display at Elland Road on Tuesday night as he considers his options for the trip to Reading on Saturday.
The game could be a high scoring one, at least one of the teams has scored three goals in the last six games at the Madejski Stadium.
The Royals have recorded 3-0 wins over Fulham, Blackpool and Rotherham, beaten Millwall 3-2, drawn 3-3 with Wolves and lost 3-0 to Derby.
Simon Cox and Glenn Murray are a formidable front pairing and Tal Ben Haim and Andre Bikey can expect a busy afternoon.
Stephen Henderson will again be in goal for the Addicks, with Chris Solly set to return at right-back. Central defensive rocks, Ben Haim and Andre Bikey, will probably have Morgan Fox to their left.
Frederic Bulot has made good progress from his injury but may not be risked in this match. Franck Moussa’s knee may rule him out too.
Arsenal loanee, Francis Coquelin, was impressive when he came on at Leeds and could be part of a five man midfield.
Igor Vetokele has been brought back slowly but Peeters may be ready to give his star striker a starting berth.
Cherlton could look like this:
Henderson; Solly, Ben Haim, Bikey, Fox; Gudmundsson, Buyens, Coquelin, Jackson, Cousins; Vetokele.
Subs: Pope, Wilson, Onyewu, Munns, Harriott, Tucudean, Ahearne-Grant.
The referee will be Neil Swarbrick from Lancashire.
The Addicks have become draw specialists away from The Valley, five of their eight games on the road have ended in stalemate.
If a couple of those draws have been converted into wins, Peeters’ team would be in a very handy position. A draw again looks the most likely outcome of this match, but it is unlikely to end 3-3!
