The Kent FA is to present Football Clubs across Kent with FA 1966 Legacy Grants, as the FA and football fans across the country celebrate the 50th anniversary of England’s 1966 World Cup win.
The fund, created thanks to the superb ticket sales from the 2015 FA Community Shield match, has enabled legacy grants to be donated to football clubs across the country. The Kent FA will present a prize fund of over £3,500 into six Kent Football Clubs as part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of England winning the 1966 World Cup.
In order to select a winner, Kent FA staff and council members were invited to nominate a club and detail why they deserved the grant.
The overall winner was chosen by a panel of Kent FA representatives as Ramsgate Football Club, to receive FA 1966 Legacy Grant which will be used to increase disabled and wheelchair access across the club, including renovations at the doors of the club house to become more wheelchair friendly, building a disabled access toilet and investing in a wheelchair accessible rain shelter.
Phil Fennel, Ramsgate FC Chairman said “Ramsgate FC are very committed to providing better facilities to visitors to Southwood Stadium who are disabled or have additional requirements.”
“One of the facilities that we were very keen to provide is a disabled toilet within the Club house as well as a disabled toilet and adult changing facilities within the stadium toilets.”
“We would like to thank the Kent FA for choosing us to receive these funds towards these projects and supporting our vision. We hope these changes will continue to take the Club forward.”
In keeping with the spirit of celebration, Kent FA has also committed to donate to all other clubs who were nominated for the grant from across Kent to receive £400 each, this includes:
- Bromley Green FC
- Faversham Town FC
- Langley Athletic
- Hollands & Blair FC
- Tyler Hill FC
Paul Dolan, Kent FA’s Chief Executive was delighted to have been able to further invest into the development of our Kent Football Clubs:
“I am delighted that Kent FA was able to work with the FA to promote the Legacy Fund, and feel like Ramsgate FC was a very deserving recipient.”
“It’s also great the Kent FA was able to give something back to all the clubs who were nominated in the process. The legacy of England’s win in 1966 is still going strong.”
Greg Dyke, FA Chairman also had nothing but positivity for the future of the beautiful game:
“Much has changed on the football landscape – here and internationally – since 1966. Yes, we haven’t celebrated a World Cup win since then, but there are plenty of other causes for celebration around the game’s overall development in this country.”
“We have an exciting future ahead, and we’re all determined to give the game the best-possible chance to flourish, whether on the international stage or at grassroots – and every level in between.”
