Chatham Town’s home game against Faversham was abandoned after 26 minutes with the score 1-1 after the effects of Storm Angus were felt on the Medway towns.
Torrential rain from the off was too much for the Maidstone Road sports ground pitch to handle as well as reduced visibility for the players causing the referee to abandon the game in regard to player safety.
Faversham had started the brighter and took the lead in the 5th minute. Harvey bought down a long pass before expertly racing into the penalty area and slotting underneath the onrushing Hyde in the Chatham goal.
Chatham equalised just two minutes later. Faversham switched off at the back, allowing Chatham to take a short corner. The cross into the box found Rogers free at the near post to equalise with a fine header into the bottom right hand corner.
The game settled down as the weather worsened, making viewing the opposite side of the pitch difficult as puddles began to appear at the open end of the ground and the centre circle.
Despite the inclement weather, Faversham were dictating play and Harvey and Monger combined on the edge after Monger driving run from midfield. The one two allowed Monger to shoot but the shot was brilliantly blocked by a diving Maxted.
The referee hauled the players off after 26 minutes with the announcement to the crowd that the game had been abandoned.
All spectators at the game will gain free entry to the rearranged fixture with proof that they were at tonight’s game.
