Raiders 8-3 Invicta Dynamos

The Invicta Dynamos hit 3 goals on the road versus the Raiders in Romford on Sunday night but still ended-up losing 8-3.

The Mos were short of Owen Dell, Arran Strawson and Ryan Giles but once again called-up Luke Thirkettle from the Mustangs. For the Raiders, they were missing 3 players including Ashley Jackson.

Mos’ netminder Conor Morris was in the thick of the action within the opening minutes of the game with saves from Sean Barry and Matt Turner. At the opposite end of the ice the Mos took the lead when Lewis English and Oskars Ancitis played providers for Callum Best to strike past netminder Ben Clements on 4:31 for 1-0 to the away side. Ancitis then had an opportunity himself on 5:49 when Lewis English played a pass from left to right for the import to shoot first time into the glove of Clements.

The Raiders levelled matters on 6:25 – Blahoslav Novak feeding from Filip Sedivy for 1-1. Ancitis then took a whack to the face but the incident was unseen by referee Blaine Evans and play continued as the import skated over to the Mos’ bench. The Raiders then went 2-1 up on 17:31 with JJ Pitchley converting past Morris assisted by Mason Webster, once of Dynamos’ colours. Aaron Connolly almost dragged the puck wide of Morris moments later to create an open goal to shoot at – but he skated too far wide to convert a shot on target. That let-off was a warning shot for the Mos – and they were punished on 19:02 when Juraj Huska assisted for Jake Sylvester to notch the score up to 3-1 to end the scoring in the 1st period.

The 2nd period started with Ancitis firing at Clements from the right flank but the nettie was equal to the attempt. Anthony Leone then went close on 23:57 when his attempt was fumbled by Clements near to the goal line but the Mos’ captain was unable to convert the puck beyond the line. Both sides were reduced to 4 men on the ice at 24:14 with Leone (holding) and Dan Scott (high sticks) punished for two minutes each. The hosts made it 4-1 on 24:52 with Novak accepting a pass from Sedivy to strike his second goal of the evening. Matt Foord was sent to the penalty box in the 26th minute for slashing – the resulting powerplay giving the Raiders the opportunity needed to make it 5-1 on 27:04 with Pitchley tapping in the rebound after a Morris save. With a four goal cushion giving the home side a bit of distance from the Mos they swapped netminder with Brad Windebank entering the game. However, the first touch for Windebank was to retrieve the puck out of the back of the net when Lewis English raced onto Harrison Lillis’s pass to score and make it 5-2 on 30:38. A minute later the Raiders restored their 4 goal lead with Aaron Connolly hitting a first time shot past Morris for 6-2. The 2nd period ended with Pitchley serving a 2 minute on behalf of Windebank after the netminder was caught tripping by Evans.

The final period had the Mos hit a 3rd goal on 44:09 – Lewis English doubling his tally with both Louis Colvin and Harrison Lillis claiming the assists. An Aaron Connolly penalty for interference on 48:27 wasn’t taken advantage of by the Mos and when the Raiders went on a powerplay themselves following a Lillis holding penalty they showed the Mos how it should be done – Mason Webster haunting his old teammates by making it 7-3 on 52:53. Not long afterwards the Raiders struck their 8th goal – Aaron Connolly becoming the 4th player of the night to hit two goals when he dispatched past Morris on 53:30 assisted by Tom Huggett and Callum Wells. The Mos ended the game on a powerplay after Brandon Webster challenged Luke Thirkettle with a leading elbow but the score remained at 8-3.
