Radacanu shortlisted for Player of the Year

Kent’s Emma Raducanu has been shortlisted for the LTA Tennis Awards 2022 ‘Player of the Year’ following the announcement of this year’s nominees.

To make the overall Player of the Year shortlist, Raducanu from Bromley, was voted Women’s Singles Player of the Year by tennis fans (LTA Advantage members), Colour Holders, Coaches and LTA Colleagues based on their performances in the 2021 calendar year.

2021 US Open Emma Raducanu was named Women’s singles Player of the year. The 19-year-old enjoyed a stellar 2021, becoming the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title for 44 years and the first qualifier to win a Grand Slam title in the Open Era.

During the 2021 Championships at Wimbledon, Raducanu became the youngest British woman to reach the fourth round of the Open Era and was also a finalist at the WTA Chicago 125.

Raducanu jumped 324 places in the rankings to a career high World No.18 at the end of 2021 and was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year and awarded an MBE.

Emma Raducanu said: “Last year was an incredible experience for me. I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard on my game and see what 2022 has in store.  I would like to thank everyone who voted, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of the British fans this summer.”

The LTA Tennis Awards 2022, which celebrate the achievements of outstanding tennis volunteers, coaches, officials, venues and players in Britain in 2021, connect the grassroots of tennis to the elite level of the game.

The ‘Player of the Year’ and winner will be announced at the virtual 2022 LTA Tennis Awards ceremony, which will be streamed live on the LTA website on Thursday 19th May.
