Adrian Quaife-Hobbs is keen to get racing after confirming another season in the GP2 series.
Adrian had been in negotiations with teams for a number of weeks looking to ensure his place on the grid for the coming campaign.
Now he has confirmed to race for Italian outfit Rapax the 23-year-old he is keen to get back doing what he loves the most racing.
Speaking exclusively to Kent Sports News, Adrian said: “It was as tight as it seems in signing up before the season starts, well it is more yes and no in a way.
“We were speaking to quite a few teams and we thought we had done a deal with one team and that ended up falling through. You just had to keep going and you end up speaking to so many different teams with work going on.
“It finally came together though and I am delighted to have been able to sign with Rapax. It is a relief to have it all done now, so you can start to focus on a certain goal now and plan to try and achieve that.”
Looking back on his first season it was a learning curve for Adrian in GP2 but one that got better as the season progressed.
He added: “The first season was up and down and it had its moments where it was good and showed potential. Having changed teams part way through the season it started to get better, and where I changed teams we were on the podium in Spa and then the top step at Monza within a few weeks. It showed the potential of what a good team can do.”
There were three standout moments for Adrian during the campaign and they came in Monza and Spa with Hilmer Motorsport and Monaco with MP Motorsport.
“Monaco is one of those races that you want to finish on the podium for, but I also have my Spa and Monza results as well with my first win coming at Monza. Monaco was the first track where we showed we could be competitive with the car that we had.”
Adrian will now have to hit the ground running as testing is underway this week in Abu Dhabi ahead of the new season.
“I now want to get the maximum out of the car and start to work with the team on getting the car set-up ready for the race weekends.”
In terms of targets after having a season of bedding himself into the GP2 Championship Adrian is now targeting a regular place on the podium for 2014.
He said: “My target for the season is to win races and try and win the championship, I have had one year learning with a couple of teams and now I need to put all that into practice and hopefully it will all come together.”
Rapax have a good track record in GP2 helping Pastor Maldonado to the drivers’ championship in 2010 before he made his way into Formula One. They also won the team championship in that year, and in 2013 they were the constructor’s runner-up and Adrian will be hoping that they can help him achieve his aim of lifting the GP2 driver’s title.
