Kent’s Adrian Quaife-Hobbs impressed in qualifying this afternoon in Bahrain ahead of this weekend’s GP2 races.
The MP Motorsport driver managed to put his car on the fourth row of the grid in 8th place with a fastest lap time of 1:40.769.
The 22-year-old will be impressed with this qualifying compared to the first race weekend and he will be in with a chance of scoring some good points in the feature race on Saturday and the sprint race on Sunday.
Carlin’s Jolyon Palmer will line-up in 13th place for this weekend’s races having clocked a fastest time of 1:41.033, meaning that he could be the man to watch coming through the field to score points during the races.
The man to beat this weekend will be Fabio Leimar after he converted his pace in testing to taking pole position in qualifying. His fastest time was 1:39.427. Underlying just how quick he was in both testing and then qualifying he was the only GP2 driver to break the 1:40.000 barrier during qualifying.
Other Brits on the grid include Sam Bird in 9th place, James Calcado in 11th place meaning that it is a tightly packed midfield of Brits who are all in with a shout of scoring some good points this weekend.
Bahrain is currently predicting sweltering temperatures for the race weekend and this means that a good race strategy is going to be key to victory, especially with good management of tyres.
The feature race takes place tomorrow live on the SKY F1 channel and then the sprint race takes places on Sunday morning again live on the SKY F1 channel before the Formula One cars take to the track.
